Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (973) 326-6880 This Authority is often referred to as the Water Department, but is known mostly by its title: SMCMUA. Calling it the Water Department is actually a misnomer because it is an autonomous government agency. Morristown joined with Morris Township, Morris Plains, and Hanover in creating the Authority. Each town appoints two representatives to the Board of Directors who are responsible for overseeing the operation. All income of the Authority comes from the sale of water to its resident and commercial or industrial customers of the four towns. It does not utilize tax dollars in any way. The rates of the Authority are set by the Board of Members. Council appointments - 2 members - 5 years Meets 1st & 3rd Thursdays , 7:30 p.m., 19 Saddlebrook Road, Cedar Knolls. Most 3rd Thursdays end up cancelled; Nov/Dec may vary. Periodic committee meetings |
